Sri Lanka, June 11 -- Train services along the Upcountry Railway Line have been disrupted following the sudden appearance of a sinkhole between Peradeniya and Kandy, the Department of Railways confirmed today.

According to officials, the sinkhole has formed near the Kandy Courthouse Complex, causing a cavity beneath the railway tracks. As a result, all train traffic on this section of the line has been temporarily halted for safety reasons.

Engineers and maintenance crews have been dispatched to the site to assess the extent of the damage and begin necessary repairs. The Railways Department has advised passengers to expect delays and make alternative travel arrangements where possible.
