Sri Lanka, April 23 -- Prison officials were forced to fire warning shots into the air to control a clash between two groups of inmates at the Matara Prison.
The unrest reportedly erupted when authorities attempted to transfer an inmate to another correctional facility. In response, a group of inmates from one ward began protesting and acting aggressively.
The Prisons Department said that Prison officials discharged warning shotinand used tear gas in an effort to restore order.
Meanwhile, the Police Special Task Force (STF) has been deployed to secure the perimeter of the facility following the situation.
