Colombo, April 21 -- A severe lightning warning has been issued today for 13 districts, the Meteorology Department said.

A high-level red alert has been declared for the following districts: Mannar, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Matale, Batticaloa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Ampara, Moneragala and Hambantota.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
