Sri Lanka, Dec. 8 -- The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for severe lightning in the Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces, as well as the Colombo and Kalutara districts today.

According to the advisory, which remains in effect until 11.00 pm, red alerts have been declared for seven districts while amber alerts have been issued for five others.

Thunderstorms accompanied by intense lightning are expected in the affected areas. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and take necessary measures to reduce the risk of damage caused by the adverse weather conditions.
