Sri Lanka, March 4 -- Major General (Retired) Sampath Kotuwegoda is to be appointed as the new Director General of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) in Sri Lanka.

Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said that Cabinet approval has been granted for the appointment, effective from March 7, for a period of one year.

Major General (Retired) Udaya Herath, the current Director General of the DMC, will conclude his one-year contract on March 7.
