Sri Lanka, Nov. 27 -- Rugam in the Batticaloa district recorded the highest rainfall in the country with 300.1 mm, as severe weather continued to batter several parts of the island, the Department of Meteorology reported today.
According to the department, the low-pressure system located southeast of Sri Lanka has intensified into a depression and is now centered near latitude 5.9N and longitude 82.6E, about 210 kms southeast of Batticaloa.
Due to its influence, heavy rainfall exceeding 200 mm and strong winds are likely in the North Central, North Western and Trincomalee districts, while rainfall above 150 mm is expected in the Northern, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Western Provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Batticaloa districts...
