Sri Lanka, Nov. 11 -- Opposition MP Rohitha Abeygunawardhane cited in his speech the article titled "Sri Lanka is the secondmost expensive country in South Asia to live in" published in the Daily Mirror newspaper recently to highlight the situation in the country.

Speaking during the budget debate, the MP told Parliament that according to the Daily Mirror article, Sri Lanka is the secondmost expensive country in South Asia to live in.

"This is the situation in the country. If the situation in the country is good, this will not happen," he said.

The MP said the popularity of the government is diminishing where the National People's Power (NPP) has been defeated in a number of Cooperative Society elections.
