Sri Lanka, May 26 -- An officer attached to the Consulate General of India in Jaffna was killed in a road accident in Omanthai, Vavuniya early this morning, according to the Omanthai Police.

The accident occurred when the car the family was travelling in, en route to Jaffna from Colombo, collided with a tipper truck coming from the opposite direction.

The victim, a 52-year-old employee of the Indian Consulate, died at the scene.

His wife, son, and father-in-law, who sustained serious injuries, were rushed to the Vavuniya District General Hospital for treatment.
