Colombo, April 8 -- Heart dieases is a leading cause of illness leading to deaths, affecting 60,000 people each year, and includes conditions such as heart attacks, strokes and heart failure, said Senior Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Gotabaya Ranasinghe.
While speaking to the Daily Mirror, he revealed that 20% of the deaths reported overall are due to Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).
Dr. Ranasinghe highligted that cases of heart diseases have increased by 15% over the past 10 years, with 200 patients reporting daily due to heart- related issues.
He said that the factors linked to heart related issues are poor diet, lack of exercise and stress.
