Sri Lanka, Jan. 14 -- A retired Navy medical assistant has been arrested on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 200,000, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said.
The arrest was made yesterday near the D.S. Fonseka Road junction in Thimbirigasyaya, following a complaint lodged by a resident of Wellawatte.
According to investigators, the suspect had allegedly demanded a total bribe of Rs. 300,000 to facilitate the admission of the complainant's eldest daughter to Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, for Grade One in 2026. It is further alleged that the suspect received Rs. 100,000 on three separate occasions and was demanding the remaining Rs. 200,000 at the time of arrest.
