Colombo, April 23 -- Health officials warn that Malaria is on the rise again in Sri Lanka and it has been traced to individuals who have recently returned from abroad, Health Promotion Bureau.

Consultant Community Physician at Anti Malaria Campaign Dr. Pubudu Chulasiri said.

Sri Lanka has maintained a strong programme to prevent the resurgence of Malaria, recognising the ongoing risk of travellers returning with the disease.

In Sri Lanka, there were 62 malaria cases with one death in 2023, while 38 cases and one death were reported in 2024. So far in 2025, 14 cases have been identified.
