Sri Lanka, Nov. 30 -- The operation to rescue individuals trapped following the breach of the Mavil Aru reservoir embankment was carried out under the direct supervision of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, officials confirmed.
According to military and disaster response teams, 121 people have so far been rescued through intensive aerial operations deployed immediately after the incident. Helicopters were dispatched to reach areas cut off by rising waters and unstable ground conditions.
Authorities say rescue missions are continuing as weather permits, with ground and air teams coordinating to locate those still stranded.
