Sri Lanka, June 2 -- Commenting on the Government's move to regulate social media, opposition MP S.M. Marikar said today that regulating any form of media should be confined only to preventing personal insults.
"The main issue with the media is personal insults. This is seen on social media as well. Therefore, the Government should only focus on brining some laws to prevent personal insults," the MP said.
"There is nothing wrong in preventing the media from giving space to violence but highlighting past remarks made by politicians should not be censored," he added refering to a recent statement by the police that the media should not highlight violence that had taken place during the past.
