Sri Lanka, Aug. 1 -- Police officers began informing drivers of light vehicles near the Kottawa entrance of the Southern Expressway today (August 1) about a new safety regulation that has come into effect, requiring all rear-seat passengers to wear seat belts while traveling on expressways.
The new rule, aimed at enhancing passenger safety, mandates that not only front-seat occupants but also those seated in the rear of light vehicles must now buckle up. Police are expected to carry out regular inspections along expressway entrances to ensure compliance.
Authorities urge all motorists and passengers to follow the updated regulation, warning that legal action may be taken against those who fail to adhere to the rule.
