Sri Lanka, Aug. 29 -- Former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne was today ordered to be remanded until September 9 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
Senaratne, who was brought to court by prison authorities, had earlier been produced before the Colombo High Court in connection with another case. The High Court Judge subsequently directed that he be placed in remand custody and produced before the Magistrate's Court.
A warrant had previously been issued by the Magistrate's Court against the former minister over allegations of causing a financial loss exceeding Rs. 20 million to the government. The case relates to the awarding of a sand mining project at the Kirinda Fisheries Harbour to a Korean company.
