Sri Lanka, April 26 -- Sri Lanka's weather is being affected by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), where winds from the north and south meet, bringing rain to many parts of the island.

According to the Meteorological Department, showers or thunderstorms are likely in most areas during the afternoon or night.

"In the morning, light rain can be expected in the coastal areas of the Western Province and in the Puttalam, Mannar, Galle and Matara districts," the department forecast.

Some places in the Central, Uva and Eastern Provinces, as well as the Vavuniya and Polonnaruwa districts, may experience fairly heavy rain-about 75 mm.
