Colombo, Sept. 24 -- The Plantation and Community Infrastructure Ministry said that a QR code system will be introduced from Friday (26) to distribute fertiliser subsidies for tea cultivation.

The inaugural program for 2025 will allocate Rs. 2,000 million worth of fertiliser subsidies, with the long-term goal of increasing the annual tea harvest to 400 million kilograms by 2030.

According to the Ministry, the subsidy will primarily benefit smallholder farmers, who contribute 75% of the country's total tea production. Under the scheme, farmers will receive Rs. 4,000 for a 50kg fertiliser pack and Rs. 2,000 for a 25kg pack.
