Sri Lanka, Nov. 28 -- The Irrigation Department have warned residents in Colombo and surrounding areas to remain on high alert as the Kelani River continues to rise following persistent heavy rainfall.
The department said the increasing water levels have heightened the risk of the river overflowing, which could lead to flooding in nearby communities.
Disaster response teams are monitoring the situation closely and have urged the public to follow official updates and take necessary precautions.
As such, residents living in low-lying or flood-prone areas have been advised to stay prepared, secure essential items, and avoid unnecessary travel near the riverbanks until conditions improve.
