Sri Lanka, Aug. 9 -- The Ministry of Public Security has affirmed that neither Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala nor any member of his staff will exert undue influence or interfere in police arrests or related actions.

Issuing a statement to, the Ministry said it is carrying out a special operation to combat drugs, dismantle the underworld, and uphold law and order in the country.

The Ministry revealed that on July 8, 2025, a suspect was arrested for allegedly impersonating the Minister's secretary and calling the Maharagama Police in an attempt to secure the release of a suspect detained for heroin possession.

Authorities confirmed that legal action has been initiated and a special investigation is underway
