Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- Ampara, September 20 (Daily Mirror) - All public transport drivers will be required to obtain a Public Transport (PT) licence by December 31, Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake announced today (20).
Speaking at a meeting held in Ampara, the Minister said that all necessary regulations have already been finalised.
He further said that seat belts have been made compulsory, though most buses currently in operation do not have them installed. While bus owners may modify their vehicles, they are not permitted to add seat belts afterward, he clarified.
"The public transport sector should be handled by serious and responsible individuals. Those who do not take this profession seriously are not suitable to transport pass...
