Sri Lanka, Nov. 4 -- A probation officer was arrested yesterday by the Ampara Division Women and Children's Bureau on suspicion of rape of two underage girls in a Home for the Children in Dehiattakandiya in Ampara.

A police team under the OIC of the Women and Children's Bureau, CI Dayani Gamage, had carried out the raid. She said the suspect had raped one of the girls and sexually abused the other.

The Matron of the Children's Home, who received information on the incident through a fellow inmate of one of the victims, had informed the police.

Police said the suspect had fled the area after they initiated investigations and that he was arrested at his hideout in Mahiyangana.
