Colombo, April 8 -- Responding to criticism over ongoing investigations involving an elderly woman allegedly connected to a public fraud case, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that age will not shield anyone from legal scrutiny if public funds are at stake.

Addressing a public rally in Galle, the President made it clear that the authorities are focused on tracking down stolen public money, regardless of who may be in possession of it.

"We do not care whether the individual is young or old. But she is in this situation because of her fraudulent grandchildren. If the stolen funds are with their grandmother, then she too will be questioned. If the entire family is involved, they must all face the consequences," he added.
