Colombo, Oct. 12 -- The government will take steps to ensure that plantation workers get a minimum daily wage of Rs. 1,750 within this year, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.
He said this while addressing an event to launch an Indian funded housing project in Nuwara Eliya.
The President said plantation workers had been demanding the Rs. 1,750 daily wage for a long time now.
"We will take steps to provide them with that right somehow within this year," he said.
