Sri Lanka, April 14 -- The first meal of the New Year will be prepared at the auspicious time of 4:04 AM on Monday, April 14, in accordance with traditional customs.
Wearing copper-colored attire and facing the south, families will light the hearth and prepare kiribath (milk rice), along with traditional sweetmeats such as kevum, kokis, aluwa, and aasmi. Boiling fresh milk in an earthen pot, which symbolizes prosperity and abundance, is a key ritual during this time.
Once the food is prepared, families gather at the table at the auspicious time to enjoy the first meal of the New Year together, reinforcing unity, gratitude, and hope for a prosperous year ahead.
