Sri Lanka, Dec. 18 -- Authorities have warned of the potential opening of the spill gates at the Moragahakanda Reservoir due to rising water levels, following heavy rainfall and inflows from surrounding catchment areas.

Engineer in Charge of the Moragahakanda Project, P. S. Bandara, said that as of 2 p.m today (18), the reservoir water level stood at 184.80 meters, reaching 98.92% of total capacity. He noted that additional water may enter the reservoir if rainy conditions persist, particularly from the Bowathenna Reservoir overflow.
