Sri Lanka, June 21 -- The Sri Lanka Police denied viral social media reports claiming that individuals found driving under the influence of liquor will be fined Rs. 500,000 or face two years in prison.

Police clarified that no such legal amendment or enforcement directive has been introduced.

They further said that action will be taken against individuals who created and circulated the false information online, warning that spreading misinformation is a punishable offence under Sri Lankan law.
