Colombo, July 27 -- Sri Lanka Police have refuted social media claims that security provided to a senior Buddhist monk in the Eastern Province had been withdrawn.

In a statement, police clarified that officers from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) were originally assigned from Colombo.

However, due to administrative challenges in managing long-distance deployments, a proposal was made to assign local police officers for greater efficiency.

Police assured that the monk's security was never withdrawn and assured that measures are in place to maintain the same level of protection.
