Sri Lanka, Dec. 22 -- A police constable implicated in an assault involving Ratnapura District National People's Power (NPP) Member of Parliament Shantha Pathma Kumara Subasingha has been arrested, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody by officers of the Embilipitiya Divisional Investigation Bureau on multiple charges, including criminal intimidation.

He is due to be produced before court this afternoon.

Meanwhile, police said earlier that a blood sample obtained from the police officer who was allegedly assaulted by a group that included MP Subasingha will be forwarded to the Government Analyst's Department for examination.
