Colombo, Nov. 9 -- Following the government's decision to raise the daily wage of plantation workers to Rs. 1,750 under the 2026 Budget, workers in the Agarapathana area prepared and shared milk rice on Saturday (09) to express their gratitude to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The workers offered blessings to the President and the government before resuming their daily work, describing the move as a historic and compassionate decision that acknowledged the long-standing hardships of plantation communities.
They noted that this was the first time in history a government had increased plantation wages without protests or strikes, commending the President for taking proactive measures to improve their living standards.
