Sri Lanka, Nov. 28 -- Severe weather conditions have forced authorities in Peradeniya to activate heightened safety measures as the overflowing Mahaweli River has inundated several low-lying areas, including parts of the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Amid the deteriorating situation, the Peradeniya University has been closed until further notice, with officials prioritizing safety preparedness across the campus. The university administration confirmed that all hostel-resident students remain safe and under continuous monitoring.

Local authorities warn that floodwaters may continue to rise and have urged residents living near the affected zones to remain alert and adhere to instructions issued by disaster management teams.
