Colombo, April 28 -- Devotees who visited Kandy during the exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic have haphazardly disposed more than 600 tonnes of garbage into the environment by 12.00 noon yesterday.
Water Works Engineer and Head of the Solid Waste Section Engr. Nimal Dhammika Disanayake said by 12 noon yesterday they had collected and removed to the Guhagoda garbage dumping ground more than 500 tonnes of garbage and this would exceed 600 tonnes by the end of the day. He said an average of one kilo of garbage had been disposed by each devotee during their stay in Kandy.
