Sri Lanka, Aug. 28 -- The Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society (SLEDS) has reported that 5,117 eye donations were recorded posthumously during the first eight months of this year.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, SLEDS President Sampath De Silva revealed that corneas were transplanted to 1,144 local patients and 3,973 foreign patients.

He added that 98,295 corneas have been donated to foreign patients and 58,635 to local patients so far.

In addition, the Tissue Bank provided 592 tissues for transplant surgeries during the first eight months of 2025, bringing the total number of tissues provided to 18,326.
