Sri Lanka, Dec. 21 -- The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs said that 1,054 religious places and archaeological sites across the country have been damaged due to the recent disaster situation.

Deputy Minister Muneer Mulafer said that 33 religious places among those affected have suffered total damage.

He further said that restoration and rehabilitation work to return the damaged religious places and archaeological sites to their previous condition has already commenced.

The Ministry said necessary measures are being taken to assess the extent of the damage and to ensure the preservation of religious and cultural heritage sites affected by the disaster.
