Sri Lanka, Dec. 1 -- The Opposition staged a walkout of Parliament protesting the refusal by the ruling party to allow a full day's debate on the disaster situation.

Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunatilaka announced the decision to walk out.

"We never agreed to close Parliament sessions at 12.30 pm," he said.

MPs Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam and Shanakiyan Rasamanickam also announced their decision to walk out.

Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake said party leaders can speak in Parliament to voice their opinion on the disaster situation until 12.30 pm."

Some Opposition parties agreed to close the sessions at 12.30 pm," he said.
