Sri Lanka, Dec. 1 -- The Sri Lanka Police announced that no legal action will be taken against motorists driving with expired licences between 25 November and 25 December 2025.
In a statement, Police said the decision follows widespread difficulties faced by drivers in renewing their licences on time due to the ongoing adverse weather and natural disaster situation across the country.
Many motorists have been unable to visit licensing offices during this period, resulting in delays in renewal.
To ease the burden, the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has introduced a special concessionary period, allowing drivers with expired licences to continue using their vehicles without being deemed in violation of traffic laws.
