Sri Lanka, Aug. 4 -- The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Okkampitiya Police Station, who was arrested over allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe was ordered to be remanded till August 18 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga today.

According to the investigating officers, the arrest was made based on a complaint lodged by a businessman engaged in the sand trade in the Gaminiapura area of Okkampitiya. The complainant had alleged that the suspect demanded Rs. 50,000 per month in order to allow him to carry out his sand business without interference.

Investigations have further revealed that the suspect had accepted a bribe amounting to Rs. 47,000 from the complainant on several occasions.
