Sri Lanka, Dec. 2 -- Official figures of the recent flood disaster are far from being accurate, as some deaths have not been accounted for, a key opposition figure said today.

The United National Party (UNP) Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the official death toll, which has exceeded 400, cannot be the accurate figure as there are many more deaths.

"Around 21 vehicles have been washed away in Tulhiriya itself, while similar reports are coming from areas such as Kurunegala. Therefore, the official figures given surely can not be accurate," he said.

"It is essential to assess the loss of lives, injured persons and the property which has been damaged," he added.
