Sri Lanka, Nov. 5 -- The National People's Power (NPP) Peliyagoda Urban Council member, whose husband and son were arrested for drug smuggling, has resigned.

Legal action is being taken against the two individuals who were arrested with drugs in Eppawala, the National People's Power (NPP) said.

The NPP added that the member in question, Disna Niranjala Kumari, was elected as a member of the Peliyagoda Urban Council at the last Local Government elections.

She has handed over the letter of resignation to the Gampaha District Returning Officer.
