Sri Lanka, Dec. 9 -- The Northeast monsoon is gradually establishing over Sri Lanka, bringing showers and thundershowers to several regions of the island, the Meteorology Department said.

According to meteorological authorities, rain is expected at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central and Uva provinces. Some areas in the Northern, Eastern and North-Central provinces may receive heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize risks and damages caused by heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning during thundershowers.

Residents in affected areas are urged to stay updated with weather forecasts and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
