Sri Lanka, Jan. 19 -- The Meteorology Department says no significant rainfall is expected across the country until the end of March, according to current weather forecasts.

Department Deputy Director Athula Karunanayake, told the media that the northeast monsoon, which is presently influencing Sri Lanka's weather, is likely to conclude by the end of February. He added that the inter-monsoon period will follow and continue through March and April.

However, he said that a brief spell of increased rainfall is expected from January 23 to 26.

"During this period, cloudy skies and occasional showers can be expected in the Eastern, Uva and North Central Provinces, as well as in the Matale and Hambantota districts," Karunanayake said.
