Sri Lanka, Dec. 18 -- Refuting claims that a gas shortage is imminent, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said today that there will be no shortage, as the first shipment under the new supplier, Geogas Trading SA of Switzerland, is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka by January 5, 2026.

Addressing Parliament, the Minister said the tender to supply gas to Sri Lanka has been awarded to Geogas Trading SA, replacing the previous Omani company, and that the relevant agreements have already been signed.

"The first gas shipment will arrive in Sri Lanka by January 5. Therefore, there will be no gas shortage, as claimed by some opposition MPs," he said.
