Sri Lanka, Feb. 12 -- Nine Fundamental Rights petitions challenging the appointment of Deshabandu Tennakoon as Inspector General of Police (IGP) were withdrawn before the Supreme Court today, as he no longer holds the office.
When the matters were taken up before a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena and Justices Achala Wengappuli and Mahinda Samayawardhena, the Court was informed that Deshabandu Tennakoon had been removed from the post through a parliamentary process.
Considering the submissions made, the Supreme Court decided to terminate further proceedings in respect of the relevant Fundamental Rights applications.
