Sri Lanka, Dec. 10 -- The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has outlined the scientific process behind issuing landslide early warnings, noting that alerts are generated using rainfall forecasts from the Meteorology Department along with real-time data from automated rain gauges placed in high-risk areas.

According to the NBRO, warnings are valid for 24 hours and are revised in line with changing rainfall conditions. They are issued regionally to safeguard people living in identified risk zones and near unstable slopes.
