Colombo, Feb. 16 -- A Naval personal has been arrested in the Ilukhena area of Kuliyapitiya for possessing a T56 firearm that went missing from a Navy armory in 2021.

According to the police, a team from the Navy Headquarters, assisted the Kuliyapitiya Police in arresting the suspect during a raid.

The suspect, who was stationed at the Colombo Port's Rangalla Camp in charge of the armory in 2021, and the relevant firearm went missing at that time.

The weapon was found in the suspect's home in Galpola.

The sailor has been taken to the Welisara Navy Camp and will be handed over to the Kuliyapitiya Police for further investigation.
