Sri Lanka, Aug. 3 -- SLPP National Organizer Namal Rajapaksa has accused the government of politicizing the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) and suppressing independent youth activism, following the arrest of a district youth leader.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rajapaksa said the arrest of Poorna Sathyajith, former Chairman of the Kalutara District Youth Federation, for allegedly opposing the move was "a clear act of oppression."

"We strongly condemn the government's act of politicizing the National Youth Services Council, which is a huge blow to the overall youth population in the country," he said.
