Sri Lanka, Dec. 8 -- Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa called on Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya to immediately summon Parliament, to monitor, debate and ensure that government promises become real assistance on the ground for those affected by the recent cyclone.
"People are suffering like never before, entire villages have been submerged, homes destroyed, families displaced and children left without food or clean water. Many people are forced to live in temporary shelters or wade through floodwaters daily, uncertain whether their homes will survive the ongoing rains," he said.
He said that more than a million people across all 25 districts are grappling with loss, hunger, illness and uncertainty.
