Colombo, March 13 -- Former Minister Mervyn Silva, who was remanded for allegedly selling state-owned land to a private party using forged documents, has been transferred to the prison hospital ward.

Silva, who is currently detained at the Mahara Prison, was moved to the hospital ward within the prison for his safety.

The Prisons Spokesman said that despite the transfer, no additional facilities were provided and the decision was taken solely due to concerns regarding his safety.

Silva was arrested by the CID and remanded till March 17 after being produced before the Mahara Magistrate's Court.
