Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- A mason who raped and impregnated a 13-year-old schoolgirl was arrested by the Hali-ela police this morning.

The 51-year-old suspect and the girl are residents of Alawathenna in Udadompe off Hali-ela.The victim is a Grade eight student of a school of the area living with her parents and two brothers.

Investigations revealed that the suspect living in the adjacent house had taken the girl to a hut near his house when she was alone, had raped her and threatened her with death if she divulged the incident to anyone.

However, when she developed vomiting in the morning her mother took her to a doctor and obtained treatment but without any improvements.
