Sri Lanka, June 6 -- A resident of Pannala who was in possession of a stock of smuggled cigarettes worth of Rs. 2.2 million was taken into custody by the Department of Excise today.
The Excise Department's all island flying squad Bureau of Special Operations (BSO) raided a house in Pannala and seized the illegal foreign cigarettes.
The sleuths found 14,000 sticks of cigarettes of a foreign brand.
The suspect along with the goods is to be produced before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate shortly.
OIC BSO Nirosh Jayakody and Superintendent P.A. Sunil are conducting investigations on the instructions of Assistant Excise Commissioner Western Province 1 Jayantha De Silva.
