Srilanka, May 15 -- A 31-year-old man was injured after police opened fire during a raid on an illicit liquor den in Kalpitiya, Galle.
Police said officers from the Thelikada Police Station acted on a tip-off received via the 119 emergency hotline about an illegal liquor production near the Gin Ganga in the Dodangoda area of Thelikada.
Upon arriving at the scene, police encountered a group of individuals, one of whom, reportedly under the influence of liquor and armed with a sword, had attempted to threaten and assault the officers.
In response, police said they opened fire, injuring the suspect below the knee in what they described as an act of self-defense.
